British System:

Speed conversion

Speed is expressed in length per time. However there are some special units:

• Speed of light in vacuum= 1079252848.8 kilometer/hour = 299792458 meter/second
  
• Speed of sound in air [mach]= 1225.044 kilometer/hour = 340.29 meter/second
  
• 1 knot = 1.852 kilometer/hour = 0.514 meter/second
  
• 1 mile/hour (mph) = 1.609344 kilometer/hour (km/h), use above length converter for mile and kilometer

Special names

Some old units in the metric system use old names that do not have the power prefixes. Those are:

• 1 millibar = 1hpa (hectopascal)
  
• Liter: 1l = 1dm³ (cubic decimeter)
  
• Tonn: 1t = 1000kg
  
• 1 are = 100 square meter = 100m², 1 hectare=10,000m²=0.01km²
